Bought to you by Barnes and Noble, America’s biggest book retailer, The Nook is THE gadget to revolutionise the way we consume our daily media. Running on Google’s Android platform, The Nook offers a futuristic reading experience. With seemingly limitless space (enough for over 1,500 books), subscriptions to newspapers, sharing capability, super fast downloads (download an entire book in seconds) and a sexy, slick design to make I-Pod fetishists look twice – The Nook, it would seem, is kind of a big deal.

The hype before the official launch was surreal. Leaked info, rumours and crazy pre-orders from people desperate to buy Nook all pointed to a product that would leave its mark on the technological landscape for years to come.

Check out the demo below

I decided to buy Nook about three months ago and couldn’t wait to get mine. So far, I’ve not been dissapointed. Compared to the Kindle, it’s on another level. The user experience, easy interface, download speed, style and choice of content all blow Amazon’s Kindle out of the water. If you’re looking for a Nook vs Kindle assesment you’ve got it, there’s no contest.

I thnk my top favourite features of Nook so far are as follows

Why I’m Glad I Decided To Buy Nook

Reading experience – No backlight, no glare. It really is like reading a book. I have had my Nook outside in bright sunshine and it’s fine.

Download speed – I was having coffee at my local coffee shop the other day. Saw an advert for Andre Agassi’s autobiography in the paper, decided I wanted it, downloaded and was reading chapter 1 before I’d finished my muffin!

Looks – It’s sleek, sexy and I think it makes the I-Pod look clunky. Put it this way, I wouldn’t take my old e-reader to the coffee shop.

Android – The Android platform is very cool! Nook supports Android apps, so I’ve got my maps and other bits and pieces ’side-loaded’ on my Nook for when I need them.

Sharing – You can loan books to people and borrow them too. I’ve checked out a few authors I hadn’t heard of this way, then I bought other books buy them if I liked them.

So far, I have no regrets that I opted to buy Nook – and I doubt I will.
